Our favourite local gems
The Istrian coast is full of hidden gems, stunning views, and unforgettable experiences. Whether you're looking for the best local food, scenic spots, or fun activities, we're happy to share our recommendations and help you make the most of your stay.
We are big fans of cycling around the coast. If the whole of this route - 50km is too much for you, you can do only little parts of it and enjoy at your own leisure.
The Parenzana route in Slovenia is fully asphalted and part of the D8 cycling network.
Starting from Portorož, your home base, the trail takes you over a scenic tunnel and through fields where local farmers grow fresh fruits and vegetables. From there, you’ll cycle through the Strunjan Valley and Landscape Park, enjoying stunning coastal views before passing through the Izola tunnel. The path then winds along the sea toward Koper, offering a perfect mix of nature and history.
For a moderately active cyclist, the ride takes about 50 minutes in one direction—a perfect way to explore the beauty of Istria on two wheels.

As you explore these vast salt fields, you’ll have the unique opportunity to learn about the traditional methods of salt harvesting that have been passed down for generations. You can visit the Saltworks Museum, where interactive exhibits reveal the fascinating process, or take a guided tour to experience the work firsthand.
The salt pans themselves offer stunning views, with a peaceful atmosphere that allows you to connect with nature and history in a truly unforgettable way.
Lepa Vida – Thalasso Spa is the perfect retreat for anyone looking to relax and rejuvenate in a tranquil, natural setting.
Located in the heart of the Sečovlje Salt Pans, this unique spa harnesses the healing power of salt and the sea, offering a range of thalassotherapy treatments designed to soothe both body and mind.
Visitors can indulge in detoxifying salt body scrubs, mineral-rich mud wraps, or unwind in the outdoor saltwater pool, all while surrounded by the serene beauty of the salt pans.
It's a peaceful haven where relaxation meets the therapeutic benefits of nature.

Old Town Piran
Piran is a charming coastal town that feels like a step back in time, with its narrow medieval streets, colorful houses, and stunning Venetian architecture.
Sitting on a small peninsula, this picturesque town offers breathtaking views of the Adriatic Sea and a rich history to discover. Stroll along its cobbled streets to the Piran Tartini Square, explore the St. George’s Church with its panoramic bell tower, or relax by the seafront, enjoying the peaceful ambiance. Whether you're soaking up the local culture or simply admiring the beauty of the town, Piran offers an unforgettable experience.
A cycle there from Portoroz is a perfectly spent day and for a food we recommend Fritolin pri Cantini.

Restaurant Sonja – Izola
One of our favorite local restaurants, that we have been visiting for many years. The drive to Izola is well worth it. It's specially great for seafood lovers!
One of the best seafood restaurant on Slovenian coast, we recommend the Shrimps and Truffle pasta.
In the Summertime, reservations are recommended!
